Far North Queensland Human Research Ethics Committee members expressions of interest

The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, through the Far North Queensland Human Research Ethics Committee (FNQ HREC, EC00157) are inviting expressions of interest for the following committee positions:

  • Minister of Religion/Pastoral Care role (male and female)
  • Lawyer (male and female)
  • General Community/lay members (male and female)

The FNQ HREC is constituted according to the NHMRC’s 'National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research'.  The Committee is responsible for reviewing and monitoring the ethical conduct of all research involving human participants carried out or in association with Queensland Health facilities, patients, staff, data, records or information.

As per the National Statement, a HREC is comprised of a minimum of eight committee members and includes those whose expertise lay in current research experience, those involved in the care and counselling of people, a lawyer, a Minister of Religion and general community/lay members.

Voluntary applicants should have no affiliation with the Institution, and are not currently involved in medical, scientific research or legal work.

Applicants should be willing to attend regular meetings and provide an active contribution to the ethical review of human research. Meetings are held every 5 weeks on a Thursday at 5.30pm and the first meeting will take place on 27 January 2022.
