Since 1993, the amount of research we do increases every year. Cairns Hospital is now the northern referral centre for clinical trials.

We've made new opportunities to work with research partners and our goal is to keep doing this.

Our health service works with many research groups that use a lot of our sites to do trials and projects.

We measure our success by increasing the number of research projects that our staff lead. We also look at the amount and the quality of research across all of our fields of health.

The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service Research Excellence Plan 2024-2029 (PDF, 558KB) looks at building on research in 4 main areas:

  1. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health
  2. Tropical health and medicine
  3. Health service research
  4. Equity of access to health care.
