Our Health Service provides a number of clinics and general practice services through primary health centres and hospitals in rural and remote areas. Primary health centres within this region are at are Croydon, Forsayth, Chillagoe and Georgetown.

Attractions in the stunning Gulf Savannah region include the Undara Lava Tubes, the Chillagoe Caves, and the oasis locations of Talaroo Hot Springs and Cobbold Gorge. The region is the gateway to the famed Savannah Way which is a 3700 km route linking Cairns in Queensland through the outback to Broome in Western Australia.

Croydon has a population of about 260 residents and is known for the beautiful Lake Belmore only 4km from the town. It is the largest body of fresh water in the region providing locals and tourists with a cool, clean, quiet place to swim, fish, ski, canoe and socialise.

Forsayth has a small permanent population of 75 residents and is know for its pioneering history and mountainous terrain. This historic township was a central part of the Etheridge Goldfields in the 1870s.

Georgetown has a population of about 350 people and also has a strong gold mining history. Situated on the Etheridge River, it is surrounded by rich beef cattle country and some of the best gemstone areas in Queensland.

Chillagoe has a population of about 250 people. It was once an ancient coral reef which has been transformed into spectacular limestone bluffs with a network of some 560 caves and small galleries of Aboriginal rock art.
