Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (HHS) is providing essential medical care throughout the impact of Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

All critical services in the region's hospitals and health facilities continue, fully stocked with the necessary supplies.

The Cairns Hospital Emergency Department (ED) is open for 24/7 for critical care.

The ED should only be used for life-threatening emergencies. Emergency surgery will continue as normal, but people with non-urgent illnesses or injuries should not use the ED, which may be busy treating cyclone casualties.

If you need non-urgent care, please:

  • Call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84), which is available 24/7
  • Queensland Health virtual ED
  • Telehealth appointment with an online GP
  • your community pharmacy.

In an emergency call triple zero (000).

Elective surgeries and non-urgent outpatient clinics for today (Wednesday 13 December) and tomorrow (Thursday 14 December) have been postponed.

If your outpatient appointment has changed, you will receive a text message from the health service.

If your elective surgery appointment has changed, the health service would have already contacted you direct.

Postponing these appointments helps ensure sufficient capacity at the hospital and prepare for potential staffing shortages due to possible flooding or road closures.

A big thank you to our staff, who are working hard to ensure the impact on our patients is as minimal as possible.
